Hey everyone💔! I'm Tian Sitong, a student majoring in international economics and trade (Sino US cooperation) in 2018. Due to the epidemic, after a year of online classes in his junior year, he finally came to the University of Northern Iowa in August 2021 to study finance. At present, my eight months of study and life here have brought me a rich and colorful experience of studying abroad. Here, the beautiful and vibrant campus environment, professional and interesting classes, inclusive and diversified international student activities, the pink sunset in the town or a snowball fight with strangers are all impressive.
At the beginning of the semester, professors of various subjects will list out the whole course plan and scoring standards in detail. I like this very much, which makes us plan the whole semester well at the beginning of the semester. Mark the deadline of all assignments and exams on the calendar, and estimate the effort I need to make to get an a in this course. Planned and targeted learning will be substantial and efficient. In class, American professors like everyone to participate in the class. American students are also very active. They recognize all kinds of novel ideas. This is what I need to strengthen and learn from my American classmates. It seems that the character of thinking everything clearly and talking about it again doesn't work here. After several months of learning, I think I have more courage to speak in English in class and express my ideas boldly. Because there is no right or wrong answer, no matter what you think, you will receive awesome! Or good idea! Feedback. After class, every professor has an office hour. If you talk to them more, you will find that they are professional, real and interesting people even though they have been worn off their hairline by the overwhelming teaching and scientific research tasks! In addition to their study and life, extracurricular activities are also one after another. I applied for a host family. Lovely American parents will help you and care for you. Take you to the teahouse at the corner of the street for a drink A cup of tea called counting sheep will take you for a walk on the frozen lake in winter, make cookies together at Christmas and watch a football match. Make your life in the dormitory and business school more exciting.
After graduation, I intend to continue my studies. At present, he has obtained offers from the University of Glasgow, the University of Southampton, the University of Sydney, Australia and other schools in finance. My study in the United States has helped me learn a lot of practical professional knowledge, and exercised my English expression ability, social ability and learning ability. All these are very useful for me to quickly adapt to graduate life. If you want to study abroad for postgraduate, I think the 2 + 2 project can serve as a bridge of transition. Because there are still students of electric machinery around, they can help each other when they encounter difficulties, so that they will not suddenly enter the lonely life of studying abroad. The classroom mode we experienced in the process of studying abroad and the experience we accumulated in dealing with foreign students can help us find a comfortable learning and social state more quickly when we are graduate students.
My neighbor and I
Chen Yijing
I am Chen Yijing from international trade 1822. My major in Shanghai Institute of electrical engineering is international economics and trade, and my major in uni is marketing: Advertising & digital media. I attended uni's online class in Shanghai in my junior year. I finished my studies in uni in my senior year and attended the graduation ceremony. On August 7, 2021, he boarded the plane to the United States.
The 2 + 2 project is a very meaningful project, which not only lays a good foundation at home, but also improves our learning ability abroad and understands the teaching and learning situation of American universities. I am very grateful for this opportunity, because in the year I came to uni, I learned a lot of professional knowledge and made many American friends. At the same time, I learned how to allocate life, social life and study reasonably. I participated in the activities organized by international students in uni, and I have a language partner and host family, which enabled me to have a deeper understanding of American culture and American life. And the group work in the United States also made me many friends. I participated in the national college student advertising marketing competition of the American Advertising Federation, and uni won the first place in the ninth division and entered the semi-finals. Although we failed to reach the final in the end, in the process of continuous cooperation to complete the task, I realized the joy of teamwork to complete a game. And I was invited to play games at my friends' homes, which made me feel that it was a very happy thing to play and study with Americans.
After graduating from the University, I chose to go to Australia for postgraduate study. And I chose the same marketing major as I did at uni. Because my two-year study at uni has made me more interested in this major, and I hope to do more in-depth research.
Chen Kai
Hello, I'm Chen Kai from China International Trade 1821. I read supply chain management at uni. Because of the epidemic, I took online classes at home for a year, so I came to the United States in mid July last year. The first thing I need to sigh about when I come here is the dormitory environment, because the lawther hall where I live is relatively new. The decoration looks a bit like a hotel, and it is also equipped with air conditioning. Different from the domestic male and female dormitories, here men and women live together. If you agree, your roommate can also be a member of the opposite sex. There are two canteens here: Rialto and Piazza. They eat nothing more than hamburgers, French fries and fried chicken every day. If they eat too much, they really want to change their taste. Let's talk about business schools. It is located in the center of the school, not too far from each dormitory building. There are professors from all over the world. The number of Chinese teachers is not small. If you choose the class of Chinese teachers, congratulations. You can talk to them about eternity. The professors here are very nice. They are very happy that you send them emails to discuss academic issues or other issues. This is a very inclusive country, and they are also willing to accept the culture from us. This semester, I had a serious academic discussion with a professor on the Taiwan issue and popularized one country, two systems. Then he corrected some mistakes and liberated the knowledge about Taiwan into course content as an interest. Everyone also expressed great understanding and tolerance for this. Let's talk about transportation again. It's very different from Shanghai. It's really hard to walk here without a car. Whether you go out to eat, buy necessities or practice, you must have a car! Speaking of internship, because it is an F1 visa, you can only apply for opt or CPT. It really takes a lot of thought to find a job. In finding a job, you must make use of all resources, especially your professors. Some of them will often forward some HR recruitment emails to students, which is very useful! I am looking for a job online. One day, an HR asked me to send my resume. After I passed the interview and everything was ok, I received a message from DHL's HR asking me to submit my resume. Although I am very excited about the DHL position and this company, it is a pity that I have finished the interview, and the DHL position is in Kansas, so I have to give up. In a word, although it is not a long time to go abroad this time, I have gained a lot, and it is quite good to come out with a long experience.
